Where to Eat in Birmingham: From the Balti Triangle to Digbeth

Balti curry dish served in Birmingham restaurant

One advantage of staying in one of our fully furnished homes rather than a hotel room is a proper kitchen — but that doesn’t mean you’ll want to cook every night. Birmingham has one of the best food scenes outside London, and here’s where our guests tend to head.

The Balti Triangle. No guide to eating in Birmingham is complete without it. Sparkbrook and Balsall Heath are home to dozens of curry houses, many BYOB, serving Balti dishes the city more or less invented. Adil’s on Stoney Lane is the most famous, but ask any local and you’ll get a different favourite.

Digbeth’s independent scene. Once industrial, now one of the most interesting food areas in the city. Digbeth Dining Club runs street food markets most weekends, and the surrounding streets are filling up with independent bars, breweries and restaurants that didn’t exist five years ago.

Grand Central and the Bullring. If you want convenience without compromising on quality, Grand Central’s upper floor has a solid run of restaurants covering most cuisines, all a two-minute walk from New Street Station — useful if you’re here on business and short on time.

Jewellery Quarter dining. As covered in our area guide, this part of the city has quietly built a strong food reputation, with independent restaurants that reward a bit of research over the obvious city-centre chains.

Southside and the Gay Village. Close to our Southside properties, Hurst Street and the surrounding streets have a dense concentration of restaurants, bars and late-night spots — good for an evening out without needing transport back to the centre.

Wherever you’re staying with us, you’re rarely more than a short walk or a quick taxi from somewhere worth eating. If you’d rather cook, every one of our homes comes with a fully equipped kitchen, so a supermarket run on arrival sets you up for the whole stay.
