“When’s the best time to visit Birmingham?” is one of the questions we get asked most, and the honest answer is that it depends on why you’re coming. Here’s how the year breaks down.
Spring (March–May). Cannon Hill Park and the canal towpaths come into their own as the weather turns, and the city is noticeably quieter than summer or the Christmas period. Good value, good weather, fewer crowds — this is our pick for a first visit if you have flexibility.
Summer (June–August). Birmingham’s outdoor spaces get proper use — beer gardens along the canals, events in Centenary Square, and long evenings that make the walk from the Jewellery Quarter to the city centre genuinely pleasant. It’s also when the NEC and ICC run their busiest conference and exhibition schedules, so book ahead if you’re combining leisure with work.
Autumn (September–November). University term starts and the city picks up energy again after summer. This is also prime season for exhibitions and trade events at the NEC, so our properties near Birmingham Airport and Sheldon see strong demand from business travellers.
Winter (December–February). The Frankfurt Christmas Market dominates late November and December, and it’s worth a dedicated visit on its own — see our seasonal guide for details. January and February are quieter and cheaper, a good window if you want the city without the crowds.
For business travellers, there isn’t really a quiet season. HS2 works, Jaguar Land Rover, and the NEC’s year-round exhibition calendar mean our Sheldon-area properties near the airport stay in demand throughout the year — book as early as you can once your dates are confirmed.
Whatever time of year you’re planning around, checking live availability is the fastest way to see what actually fits your dates. With homes across Birmingham and Solihull, from studios to seven-bedroom houses, we can usually find something that works.
