Brindleyplace is the part of Birmingham where the canals stop being purely functional and start being genuinely pleasant to sit next to, and The Canal House makes the most of it. Set below street level right on the water, it’s a large, relaxed pub with a proper canalside terrace — one of the best spots in the city centre for an evening drink when the weather cooperates.
Inside, it’s a solid, comfortable pub rather than anything trying too hard — a good pint list, straightforward food menu, and enough space that you’re rarely fighting for a table outside of peak Friday evening trade.
The location is what sells it. You’re a five-minute walk from the ICC and Utilita Arena, making it a natural stop before or after a show, and the towpath walk here from the Mailbox or Gas Street Basin is one of the more pleasant short walks in the city centre.
Best visited on a dry evening for the terrace, though it works fine indoors when the Birmingham weather doesn’t cooperate. A good, easy option if you’re staying centrally and want somewhere within walking distance rather than booking a taxi.
